7 English phrases for a brilliant essay
We all know the basic rules on how to write an essay. However, if we want to write a really good piece of work, using good phrases and transition words is a must for a great essay. It is not enough to have an interesting idea in order to write an outstanding paper.

In order to
This phrase is used for introduction of the aim or a purpose. It can be substituted with “to”, but “in order to” is more formal and is more suitable for the academic writing.
Example: I went to his office in order to meet him.
Moreover / What’s more / Furthermore
Usually, these words and phrases are used to start a sentence in order to add additional information.
Example: She is very beautiful. Moreover, she is a very kind and smart young lady.
In other words / To put it another way / That is to say
These phrases are used in order to express an idea in an alternative way. Usually, it is a simpler way to explain how something works, comparing to the explanation in the previous statement.
Example: Tom is busy on Thursday. In other words, I think he will not be able to attend our meeting.
As well as
“As well as” is a more formal way to say “and”. It is used in academic writing and very often it is helpful in terms of avoiding the repetition of “and”.
Example: I like to play tennis as well as badminton.

This is a formal substitution for “but” or “on the other hand”, so it is more preferred in academic writing. It is used to disagree with a previous statement and express the contrasting point of view.

These phrases are frequently used in essays; however, one should remember that they should be applied in the papers that are written in an informal way and with a personal touch.
